Montero-Pineda is one of most fascinating deals in years. Two young studs with star power. No money factor. A pure, old-time baseball trade

You never EVER trade 22 year old pitchers that throw 95-100, are huge, and can start, ever. Wow, don’t care how good a bat you get back….

This is a minority opinion, but I have talked to a non M’s baseball guy I respect who actually prefers Noesi to Pineda longterm.

Strong reaction so far from other teams: Some execs from other AL East teams believe Yankees just made an incredible trade.

Yesterday, Yanks’ rotation was CC/Nova/Garcia/Hughes/AJ. Today, it’s CC/Pineda/Kuroda/Nova and one of Garica/Hughes/AJ. Sounds good to me.

Another Pineda tidbit from @ESPNStatsInfo: His 173 strikeouts last year were the most by a pitcher 22 or younger since Kerry Wood in 1998

Speaking to excellent source. Loves Pineda’s makeup and competitiveness and thinks he’ll handle NYC without an issue.

On the other side, NL Exec tells me that he’s not sold on Pineda’s secondary pitches, and worries how league caught him to him in 2nd half.

The more Montero catches, the better this deal is for the #Mariners. If he doesn’t catch much, I’m not on board.

Expect industry to prefer deal from Yankees’ side, because SQUEEpitchersSQUEE, but deal shapes Ms’ talent better, and Montero is for real.

Montero was probably never going to be a catcher and the Yanks need flexibility at DH, but the guy rakes and would have destroyed the Bronx.

Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine:
