Ruim vier maanden na de overwinning op de Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX ontvingen de spelers en coaches van de New England Patriots gisteren hun ring. Op het landgoed van eigenaar Robert Kraft in Massachusetts werd tijdens een privé-feestje het succes letterlijk verzilverd (nou, eigenlijk ver-witgoud).
‘Do your job’
Want de witgouden ring voor onder andere Bill Belichick, Tom Brady en Rob Gronkowski bestaat uit 205 diamanten, de eindstand van Super Bowl 49, de signatuur van Robert Kraft en de teksten ‘Do your job’ en ‘We are all Patriots’.
‘American football is de volmaakte teamsport’, begin de Patriots-eigenaar zijn speech. ‘Deze kampioenschapsring staat voor alles dat dit team samen heeft doorstaan en overwonnen. De spelers zijn voor altijd met elkaar verbonden door de herinnering die deze ring vertegenwoordigd. De overhandiging van deze ring is een van mijn favoriete momenten.’
